This weekend a special shipment by airplane was expected on Mfangano Island. It was the body of a woman from the Island who had passed away in Nairobi, returning home to be buried. Out of this sad circumstance came a wonderful opportunity.

Naphtaly Mattah was asked to help arrange the flight and AIM AIR accepted the job. Naphtaly tells the rest of the story, in his own words:

“The night before the planned flight, an idea came to me that we could use the empty seats to bless the children of GGCC … So I asked AIM AIR to fly an academic boy and girl in each of the classes at school — 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10th grade. Three teachers would accompany them and take them around the city of Nairobi. They would then take a bus back in the evening and return home the following day.”

“Yes, the Lord granted that and the gesture seems to have opened another of competition for academic excellence among the children. The excitement about the trip is great. I love seeing children lifted to higher heights, especially those who would have otherwise been left behind as the refuse of the world.”

Many of the children have never left the Island, much less traveled to a place like Nairobi, Kenya’s bustling capital and one of the largest cities in Africa.
